TW - Toronto Women's Fashion Week Presents STEPHAN CARAS F/W 2017 Collection

March 13, 2017

This year marked the launch of the all new TW – Toronto Women’s Fashion Week (TW) event held at the Waterworks in downtown Toronto. The women’s shows were a new addition to the established Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM) both of which are owned and operated by Canada Fashion Group (CFG). TW was presented in partnership with L’Oreal and it’s three major brands: Maybelline New York, Redken 5th Avenue NYC and Essie. According to the CFG philosophy, both shows are “proudly made by and for Canadians to support Canadian Talent and the Canadian Fashion Industry.”

On the evening of March 11th I attended the stunning runway show of the father and son design duo Stephan and Kyriako Caras as they presented the CARAS, Stephan Caras Fall/Winter 2017 Collection. Born in Greece and educated in Melbourne, Australia, Stephan Caras is a well-established Toronto-based designer with more than 20 years of expertise. Mr. Caras (below left) has participated in fashion events around the world including New York, Paris, Athens, Hong Kong and Toronto. His fashion house is located in the beautifully restored heritage building at 744 Queen St. E. in Toronto.

The collection stays true to the Caras philosophy of design, inspired by sensuality and femininity and showcased exquisite gowns featuring dramatic lines, luxurious textures and bold floral palettes with undertones of gold and silver.

“Our philosophy has always been to create collections that are feminine and sensual. For the Fall/Winter 2017 collection we showcase a vivid palette of colour that emphasizes opulence. Sleek shapes achieve a balance between elegance and drama.” said co-designer Kyriako Caras (below front).

The show truly was a visual feast! Graceful models floated down the runway in creations that featured asymmetrical plunging necklines, embroidered with luxurious beaded lace. The full skirts featured dramatic flowing organza ruffles and opulent brocades. I am sure that any Hollywood starlet would have been delighted to wear one of the CARAS creations on the red carpet.

After the show, the audience participated in a filming of a scene for a ‘not-to-be named’ new television series starring a Canadian born Hollywood celebrity whose name I also cannot mention here. All I can say is that I got a glimpse of the heartthrob after the show and remember him from the famous Beverly Hills high school TV series I used to watch as a teenager.

Guests also had the opportunity to mix and mingle with members of the Canadian fashion community and fellow fashion lovers. I had the pleasure of meeting CFG Advisory Board Member and President of The Gingerich Group, Roger Gingerich (below right).

The beautiful people were definitely out in full force! It was an evening of running into familiar faces and making new acquaintances including designer Kara Granger (below right), CEO of the Kara Louise Collection and Stephanie Riding-Cunningham (below centre) wearing one of her stunning creations.

The premier of the TW Women’s Fashion Week was a huge success and a welcome addition to the Canadian fashion scene!
