Mississauga Fashion Week Presents Many Points of View

The third annual Mississauga Fashion Week was held this past weekend at the Port Credit Memorial Arena. The event supported Beauty Against Brutality, a local not-for-profit organization that connects the fashion industry to causes that speak out and amplify the voices of the weak and magnifies images of people in need. It not only focuses on outer beauty but also on mental, social and physical well-being.

The guest of honour of the evening was Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie. Mayor Crombie graced the event wearing a stunning fushia Chiara Boni design exemplifying femininity and flair. Known for her vision of Mississauga as a ‘complete city’, where professionals can launch businesses, work and play, the mayor expressed praise for the local design talent showcased at the event.

Designers and collections, including Ha Na, Africa Adorned, Dachine and Damassia, Black Orchid, Manar Shams and E. A. Spence represented many backgrounds and points of view.

Designs by Ha Na had a whimsical flair and beautiful colour combinations including, robin's egg blue, pale orange and red as seen in the outfits shown above.

Young designer Eugenie Amegah-Wovoe presented a modern twist on a tribal theme in her collection Africa Adorned.

Dachine designs had an Indian flavour with flowing sarees and robes in a bouquet of colours like the two outfits above.

By contrast, designer Damassia showcased bold, body conscious pieces in black and white.

Menswear designer E. A. Spence presented a line of Grecian inspired all white ensembles including flowing tunics and loose trousers.

Muslim designer, Shahad Mahdi of Black Orchid, showcased a pop-inspired funky collection that brought a fresh perspective to modest and fashionable streetwear.

Manar Shams' designs included vibrant colour combinations and creative use of hardware.

The evening also included delicious snacks from The Port House including Beef Wellington, vegetable samosas and spring rolls.

Congratulations to the Mississauga Fashion Week organizers for putting local style talent on the map!
