Toronto Women's Fashion Week SS18 Spotlight on Wallo
The second bi-annual Toronto Women’s Fashion Week (TW FW), presented by Canada Fashion Group (CFG), was held this past week in it's new home at One Yonge Street. CFG is committed to nurturing and promoting the Canadian Fashion industry by providing a national and international platform for Canadian fashion designers and brands to showcase their talent and innovation through impactful fashion initiatives such as TW Toronto Women’s Fashion Week and TOM* Toronto Men’s Fashion Week.
The next few posts will feature up and coming Canadian design treasures featured at the TW FW Spring Summer 2018 (SS18) show and also take you backstage to see what it takes to present a world class fashion event.
Today’s spotlight is an interview with Quebec fashion brand Wallo. I had an opportunity to meet and interview the talented, passionate, expressive and endearingly humble designer Marie-Andrēe Wallot just before her SS18 collection hit the runway.
As a visual arts major, Wallot has taken her passion for art and created a breathtaking collection that embodies her love of the contemporary arts and the modern woman. “The image of the human body in movement inspires me. Emotion is communicated through actions and facial expressions...”
The vision behind the SS18 collection Stand Up was the self-assured, confident woman who is unapologetic about who she is. The pieces are definitely not for the faint of heart. Featuring images of strong beautiful faces in vivid greens, blues, pinks and reds, the pieces exude personality, strength and confidence.
The collection includes elegant cocktail dresses, scarves, kimonos, blouses, leggings and skirts created from a blend of 90% charmeuse silk and 10% Lycra resulting in a material that is tremendously soft, resilient, fluid and comfortable. The menswear line includes kimonos, shorts and trousers.
Wallot was also one of eight designers selected to upholster a chair designed by interior design sponsor Kelly Harvey Living. The chairs were part of a silent auction raising funds for charity.
We look forward to seeing more luscious creations from Marie-Andrēe Wallot in coming years both on the Canadian and international fashion scene!
