Friday Night Live at the ROM presents Christian Dior Collection
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) just unveiled it’s original exhibition, Christian Dior, presented by Holt Renfrew. The exhibition, celebrating the fashion house’s 70th anniversary, explores the first 10 years of Christian Dior haute couture from 1947 to 1957, after the Second World War. The showcase features a selection of breathtaking designs from daytime to evening wear for grand occasions.
The exhibition opens to the public on November 25th but guests at the ROM Friday Night Live (FNL) Chic party on November 24th got the opportunity to view the collection ahead of time. The collection featured 40 designs and is arranged by day (coats, suits and day dresses); late afternoon to early evening (cocktails and dinner dresses), and grand occasion (ball and formal gowns). Many of the pieces were worn by prominent Toronto socialites from the time period.
Mr. Dior caused quite a sensation when he presented head to toe looks that included accessories that completed a look, including gloves, hats, purses and shoes. The pieces featured cinched waists that flattered the feminine form and were created using sumptuous fabrics with exquisite hand stitched details including beads, pearls, lace and sequins and superb craftsmanship.
“I had to understand the needs of elegant women all over the world.” – Christian Dior
He wanted all women to be elegant regardless of finances, by following three basic rules: simplicity, good taste and grooming.
Guests of the exhibit had the opportunity to learn snippets about the collection and the inspiration behind Mr. Dior’s pieces by viewing electronic tablet-like screens placed throughout the gallery.
FNL Chic attendees were also treated to a live performance by Jully Black. A true Canadian Icon. Named as one of ‘The 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever’, (CBC Music) she has been dubbed ‘Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul’ by her fans and peers. As a platinum selling recording artist, her music career has yielded multiple singles reaching the Top 10 pop, R&B and dance music charts. She has taken home multiple Juno Awards, earned many industry accolades and was hand selected to sing for the Queen of England. As a songwriter, Ms. Black has collaborated with industry heavyweights such as Sean Paul, Destiny's Child, among many others. She has shared the stage with superstars such as The Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Celine Dion, Elton John and Etta James to name a few.
FNL Chic was the final FNL event presented by the ROM for the current season. FNL events ran from September to November and include past events such as FNL Wicked at Halloween and FNL Senses, an exploration through the senses. Guests are treated to top DJs and live indie artists, while exploring stunning galleries with tasty food and drinks.
The event was sponsored by Ford Canada which also provided photo booths and music video taping.
The ROM FNL series is a great way for people to enjoy the museum and it's unique collections while enjoying themselves in a party atmosphere.
