Shelli Oh Takes Us Back to the Time of Sherlock Holmes at TOM* FW18
Taking us back to the time of Sherlock Holmes and the fictional address on Baker Street in London, the Shelli Oh FW18 Menswear collection was a study in intellectual sophistication.
Clean cut, well groomed models carrying books walked down the runway as if on the way to a library or lecture. The collection featured minimalist styled overcoats, cropped moto-jackets, varsity style bomber jackets and blazers in beautiful wools and tweeds with perfect attention to detail.
Each piece was well thought out and had a twist on the classic styling including: double breasted styling, collars with contrast colour detailing, vent flaps and a variety of pocket designs. The selection of colours ranged from traditional blacks and greys to burgundy, blue and black plaid prints and ensembles were accessorized with pocket squares and cravat style scarves.
In speaking to Ms. Oh after the runway presentation, I asked her where she thought the future of fashion was headed for designers like herself, especially with the predominance of the fast fashion culture. She thoughtfully replied, in her charming and soft spoken way, that for her, it would be to maintain a focus on ‘hard tailoring’, pieces that are timeless and maintain longevity.
This collection was definitely a study in smart, graceful elegance. As for future plans...she hopes that a trip to her beloved Paris is on the books.
